Kei Truck Overview

In 1949 the Japanese government created the Kei jidosha (light vehicle) category to create a class of light, inexpensive and practical vehicles.

Today their maximum size is:
  Length: 3.40 meters (approx. 11.2 feet)
  Width: 1.48 meters (approx. 4.86 feet)
  Height: 2.00 meters (approx. 6.56 feet)

Maximum engine specs:
  Displacement: 660cc (0.66 liters).
  Power: 64 horsepower

Maximum Payload:
  350 kg (approx. 770 lbs)

The beds on Kei trucks have fold-down sides, no intrusive wheel wells, and are 4.5 feet x 6.5 feet

Most of these trucks have Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) and Right Hand Drive (RHD)

States which currently restrict these trucks from driving on public roads are: Georgia, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.
