DID HARLEY DAVIDSON PRODUCE MOTORIZED BICYCLES IN THEIR EARLY YEARS AND IF SO DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THESE BIKES ?
Message:
Their first motocycles were pretty much just motorized bicycles. I've seen pictures on the web of them, butI don't know the web site. Go to Yahoo.com or another web search program and you'll find it.
Message:
Regarding H-D early bicycles, we are not sure what Kath is talking about, but the bicycles did NOT have motors and we know of no motorized version from that period. NBHAA has full records of the early Harley-Davidson bicyles, including all advertisements and brochures. None mention a motorized version, instead alluding to the actual motrcycle as a step up from the bicycle.
Message:
Solexes were made from 1948 to circa 1988. There is no way to tell the year of one from the engine #, or the frame#, without specific charts. If it is a 3800 model then it could be anywhere from 1966 to 1988. Search the web and you will find a few substantial websites on solexes. Solexes are still made in China and Hungary.

Model# 298.488530, writtened under model# Sold by Sears Roebuck And Co.
Chicago,ILL, 60684
Made in Japan.
On the back of engine cover it says SEARS
By the way the engine is in the front of the bike over the front tire.
I do not know the value of this bike but am interested in selling it.
Message:
Does it run??? And what size are the tires (26 x 1.175)?
Message:
The motor was run about 4 years ago, has not been run since.
The tires are ( 26x2.125 )
Message:
If you can get the thing running, the ballooner with the
motor should be worth at least $500, if the bike is clean and has
a tank, springer, etc. If you get the motor running and sell it
by itself it should be worth around $150-$200+. Sear still sells parts for that motor.

considered a scooter or a motorized

previous owner says he thinks it is a

I just read through a number of inquiries about Whizzer motorbikes. A few years ago Nostalgia Cycle out of Hunting Beach, California was selling reporduction Whizzer kits. I haven't bought their catologue in a couple of years, so I do not know if they are still marketing them. They looked real cool.
I am trying to design a motorized bicycle based on an old Raliegh 3-speed type bicycle. I'm hoping to get that turn of the century motorcycle look. Has anyone out there created such a contraption? I'd love to here from you.

I'm looking for an aux. motor for bikes, which is mountable on the handlebar-axis. manufacturer "REX" builded one in the early 50's, but now is out of business. One item is exposed at the german Museum in Munich.(Visit them on the Internet!) Perhaps they have som construction plans too. Patents on it are expired. Looking for something like that: 35 - 40 cc, 1 - 2 HP, 3000 - 4000 rpm 1cyl.air-cooled. a V-belt acted on an aux. wheel which was fixed on the spokes of the front wheel, so that it was not necessary to remove the dirt-protection-shield. Could be turned on and off while biking with a lever.
Who knows a producer of something like that ? Or is able to build ?
In my oppinion, such an aux. engine would beat all other aux. motors on the market because it would be small, silent, cheap and very efficient.
Who can help ? Please e-mail me !
