Regarding H-D early bicycles, we are not sure what Kath is talking about, but the bicycles did NOT have motors and we know of no motorized version from that period. NBHAA has full records of the early Harley-Davidson bicyles, including all advertisements and brochures. None mention a motorized version, instead alluding to the actual motrcycle as a step up from the bicycle.

Solexes were made from 1948 to circa 1988. There is no way to tell the year of one from the engine #, or the frame#, without specific charts. If it is a 3800 model then it could be anywhere from 1966 to 1988. Search the web and you will find a few substantial websites on solexes. Solexes are still made in China and Hungary.

Entered on: Aug 18, 1999 18:02
Entered by: Gerhard in Switzerland (fleischger@yahoo.de)

Message:
I'm looking for an aux. motor for bikes, which is mountable on the handlebar-axis. manufacturer "REX" builded one in the early 50's, but now is out of business. One item is exposed at the german Museum in Munich.(Visit them on the Internet!) Perhaps they have som construction plans too. Patents on it are expired. Looking for something like that: 35 - 40 cc, 1 - 2 HP, 3000 - 4000 rpm 1cyl.air-cooled. a V-belt acted on an aux. wheel which was fixed on the spokes of the front wheel, so that it was not necessary to remove the dirt-protection-shield. Could be turned on and off while biking with a lever. Who knows a producer of something like that ? Or is able to build ? In my oppinion, such an aux. engine would beat all other aux. motors on the market because it would be small, silent, cheap and very efficient. Who can help ? Please e-mail me !
