Wow, this site is back up. Cool. I have a few items to get rid of. I have a NOS chrome TNT pro frame, old school style. I also have a set of Diamond back chrome 180mm 3 piece chromoly cranks(single pinch bolt style), and a set of wheels(Shimano DX cassette hubs on chrome Araya Super 7x). Anyone have a complete old school Boss frame sticker pack? I need complete sickers for an '86 Boss chrome pro frame/fork. Doug L.

Talked to a guy with a large amount of the original Hutch frame jigs today. With the jigs made it couldn't cost too much to have a couple replicated. Been selling like a madman lately just sold my Candy blue Trickstar frame/fork, a mint set of chrome Dominguez bars, a GHP pro frame, a Titan Mini. All brought top dollar. Which brings me to my next point I have some cash to burn on a GJS any model, A JMC AP, or a Nomura. Also have a complete Laguna up for trade or sale, as well as a Race Inc. 4130 kit.and an ESP frame / fork.

Monday, which turned me 28 years old, I was hanging at a co-workers house, listening to his hardcore band Crackfight practice. Their lead singer Breedlove, said he knew he remembered me from somewhere. I was going through the junk drawer of my brain trying to recall where I knew this cat. I went to one of their gigs last nite and it hit me when I saw him wearing a Cook Brothers Racing cap. Old School mesh hat. I had raced with this guy back in 1980. I started and made it to Expert that year. The next year I put on a front brake and life forever changed. But I still knew some of the racers, in fact I would go out to the track and bust my Rockwalks and such. (oops, a tangent from my tangent) Well, we discuseed people we knew and stuff, and then (main point of post) he told me he still had his Cook Brothers stuff. If I remember right he was sponsored by them for awhile. Frame, fork, bars, cranks, hubs, he named Cook Bros stuff he still has. He said he still ride the his cruiser from 1983. But I told him I would tell you guys. He is wanting to sell his Cook stuff. You know, that rock and roll life style is a difficult job choice. hehe. He said all he would need is the decals and it would be perfect. If anyone is interested, email me and I will get in touch with him. Peace...

Just returned from vacation in Central America (Costa Rica on Nicaraguan border) Saw a volcano erupt, 15 foot crocodile swimming by my boat in a river, did stupid stuff like sliding on a cable between trees using mountain climbing gear and a pulley at 120 ft above the floor. But one of the coolest things and the point of this message, is that I also found bikes!! There were tons of old bikes, and most of them were bmx style. Saw a mongoose, a torker, and lots of others that I wasn't close enough to identify. Most of the bikes looked WELL used but it was still kind of cool knowing that these bikes escaped the crusher and that kids were still using them.

As I was pulling up to the side (to ask the driver what he wants for it) I noticed that the gussett was rewelded and the welder really messed up the gussett and tube in the process. No wonder he was bringing it to the junkyard. Shoot, ALMOST stumbled onto a good find.

Where was Sundance located? Were they by the Quad Cities? I grew up racing in Iowa and I remember Sundance guys riding Kuwahara's and stuff and I always thought they were from Cedar Falls or Waterloo Iowa. They had an orange sun in their logo on their uniform.Check this out- I am at my local track here in San Antonio, which had only ten motos Thursday , and nobody racing over 15 years old.{we gotta do something about that} and this kid is riding around on this Blue Max. I see plenty of those, since San Antonio has a lot of military bases and I hear that they used to sell them through te PX or BX stores on base. The funny thing is that I usually see the older skool Blue Max with the gusset like an old skool Goose, but with the iron cross logo stamped in the gusset. Well, this one was like the 1983-85 goose that had no gusset but a loop-tail rear end. It had Blue Max decals all over it and the straight forks. It really did not have any good parts on it, but I was just surprised how they kept making those Blue Max bikes until the final days of BMX products.

I know you're out there....:) I wonder when the early nineties stuff will become pseudo-old school. Maybe historians will divide BMX history into eras, like the Motobike Era, the Sting Era, the Visor Era, the Skate Helmet era, etc. Still have a couple pairs of Tuff Pedals (red and gold) in 9/16" if anyone wants to dig into the fossil record.

I've been running short of cash lately, as luck would have it, i've found some bikes some of you may be interested in. Found a black hutch expert complete bike for $125, haven't seen it, but he's had it for sale for a long time. The other good find was a chrome complete diamond back {with the diamond gusset}, nice shape for $75. Just email me on how to find these online. It would take up too much space here to explain it. I'd buy these if i had the money, just passing these leads on. Things i'm trying to find are: A light blue chromo quad and landing gear fork- does not have to old school. Do they still make the quad in light blue? The last thing i'm looking for is cyclecraft parts. I've been on cyclecraft mode as of late. I've got one cyclecraft cruiser from '96 that i'm trying to build. Many thanks to Wes' bmx for hooking me up with a padset. Wes' bmx is a great place to buy from. If you haven't bought from them- you need to. Anyway, I need cyclecraft stuff- new or old, frames, bars, stickers and misc. And no i don't work for Wes' bmx either. Thanks guys....

Absolutely no stings after around 1983 or so will even compare to the 1981 stuff! Can you imagine a mass-produced Taiwaneese jobby? That's it !! Schwinn tried to jump back into the bmx market with this smoke-chrome sting around 1986-89 or so if I remember right. It was actually a pretty good looking bike with that smoke-chrome finish and blue decals, but was nowhere near as nice as a 1981 model.I saw one in a Schwinn shop in Lawrence, KS and also one in Tyler TX just a few years ago, so they are out there. OK if you want late 80's or early 90's Taiwan stuff. Black with pink splatters though??? Ugh!

Ok, after stuggling with the this for a while, I've decided to get rid of my Sting. It is a chrome schwinn sting frame, no fork. It's from the early eighties. No badge on the front and the downtube sticker is there, but scratched. I know a guy with a pair of forks, but last time I tried to get them for a trade, the guy talked me out of trading it for a Redline. So it could go either way as far as the forks are concerned . Well last night I stumbled upon a pic of a gold PK that was stolen from me in 1990(it was a beauty) and that really made me want one again. Anyway, I'm looking for a PK Ripper. I'd like one in Black or Red, but color really doesn't matter. I'd rather not sell it, I'd prefer a trade. Let me know if anyone has any ideas. Either post a response here, or send me an e-mail...........mike

Been kinda quiet lately. My brother and I are working on our separate projects. He's painting a few projects, I'm trying to do some minor touch ups to others. I was planning on building a Kuwahara Mini I bought a while ago, as it had all the original parts with it. He's not so sure we should. So I may be letting go a Kuwahara mini frame (I'll include the forks, but they're rewelded on the dropout). If anyone is interested let me know. The frame had an eliptic downtube which I thought was a little odd, as most I've seen have the mini-gussets (this one has none). Stickers are intact and chrome is in nice shape.

However, we have hours of video footage of the crew taking turns on the old quarter pipe. Hey guys I need a plain old red Kashimax seat { pre- aero , not an aero } I have a few blue ones or maybe a yellow one around here to trade or I can buy it outright. The holes drilled in it don't matter { or lack of holes} I've seen them both ways- used is fine , as long as it's not an aero. I don't seem to see red as much as I see blue. Thanks!

Sixteen years after turning expert on it, I am once again the proud owner of my old Schwinn Sting Competition! I've only been w/o the bike for a few years though. Even my Graphite Tuffs were still with it (although a little rougher)! Anyone have frame stickers for it? I'm also looking for an early 80's (ugly green and black) Preadator frame sticker kit. And, as always, Skyway goodies, ODI Sig. grips, misc. patches and other cool early 80's stuff. As for someone mentioning Trackmaster and Maximum. I've seen many of both. There were/maybe still are a lot of Maximum's in the Northern/West Michigan area. Trackmaster's are around too, but were never very common, but definitely stood out with their square seat tubes with the bolt through it to hold it in place!

guys, since it's been tough to get a class around here for 28+ ... I'm going to focus my Y2K racing efforts on my cruiser and subsequently am selling off all of my 20" goodies ... somebody is going to get a heck of a deal ... my '96 XL cro-mo (purchased earlier this year) Robinson complete with profile cranks, GT Mohawk II sealed hubs, Araya 7x chrome rims, comp III tires and Boss bars is $300 firm. I also have a barely used USA made '97 Redline PL-20 6061-T6 aluminum XL frame with micro adjust for $100 firm. The redline retailed for $300+ is currently worth at least $140, but oldbmxdc gave me such a hot deal on it that I feel guilty not passing on the savings here ... at the track it's still going to be listed at $140. Thanks, Kevin

Going back a bit, I have to comment on how radibonzical ed's site is. Everyone must check this out. The images within translate what was limited solely to memory previously: The feelings of being part of something new, the excitement of advancement and progression, and the unity of a bunch of dorky kids who love to ride bikes. Todd Blaser did indeed rule, and the photo of him on ed's site exemplifies the mad skill that this kid was all about. I also have to comment on a few things. When I first started to pursue this vintage thing a year or so ago, I was frustrated by what seemed like an elitist attitude regarding "not for sale, trade only" practices. I understood why this philosophy was being practiced, but found it difficult to work with, considering I had nothing of note to trade. Through persistence and I suppose, proving my validity with some of the "inner circle", I have been accepted to such a point that I presently have a 2/3 complete mono shock bike with full suspension forks sitting in my garage, acquired with little effort (though some haggling) and must give props to Dan Goins and Ben Joy. Ben, the shoes are on the other foot.

Any Harley shop can help you with chrome plating, they send stuff out everyday to be chromed. Any body shop will help you out with paint. Thing being you really need to get all the rust off first. Yeah its a pain in the rear, but it must be done for a good chrome job or paint job. Go to the home of this site, I think they have a page on that alone that is great. Try aluminum foil to remove rust also, it still takes a lot of rubbing but it really does work. I've had problems removing rust from welds specifically and a little elbow grease plus aluminum foil will go a long way. I'm not sure, but I have heard a chrome shop will demand a completly clean bike to chrome. Reason being something about the dipping process or something, if it isnt clean they have to change the tanks which is very expensive. I have heard quotes of frames being chromed for 75-100 so thats not cheap, but not to bad either. Danno

As far as Skyway decals, most people probably know about the warehouse find of hundreds of Skyway T/A's a few years ago, but in case you haven't heard about it: A few years ago { like 1993-96 maybe} a bunch of Skyway T/A's were found in the Skyway warehouse. They were blown out at cheap prices to several bike shops, including Wes' and Trend in Austin ,TX. { Trend was selling the frames for $99. , but I think they are all gone. } The ones that I saw were generally all white in color, as the chrome ones sold first and were gone. The frames came with no stickers on the frame but DID COME with a sticker pack so you could apply them . Towards the end of Skyway's blowout sale , some entrepenuer { try to spell that !! } in Mexico bought all the left - over frames and aero-dynamic tubing and he was going to take the stuff to mexico and sell complete bikes. I don't know if he got the sticker packs, so Skyway could have sticker-packs { or "decal-sets" if you wish} so try calling Skyway, Trend, or Wes'.Just a thought.

It is about $100 a frame, and $25 per fork. Nickel jobs are about $80. { prices are 4 years ago} Anyway, my friend told me a horror story of a shop mixing up his redline with a Taiwan diamond back, so be careful to mark your frame somehow at any shop!{ or use the serial # } I've heard that some dudes in Cal. know guys who work in bike manufacturing factories and hook them up and chrome the vintage stuff while they are doing the new stuff. But that's tuff to do from NY so maybe check the hot rod mechanic near you who restores old cars to see where he gets his bumpers done. And then you have to hunt-down the DECALS!

Sting Competition frame (chrome in nice shape, poor stickers)& Sting forks (chrome - no stickers). Just as an FYI, there's no difference between the Sting and Competition forks, so they could be used with a Sting frame. We also have an NOS Team Schwinn crank arm (spider side) in red. Might be willing to throw that in, along with some pads. They were supposed to be a pad set, but it looks like there's 2 bar pads instead of a frame pad. Red w/ white lettering, vinyl. NOS. Taking offers. Shipping would be on top of purchase price. Any takers?

Message:
Hey all- I would like to let you all know that I am fully capable of reproducing decals. I will give all the info pertaining to what I need to do so here so I won't have to tell you all individually. The best option is: if you have a cherry, unstuck, still-on-the-backing decal, send it to me, I'll reproduce it, and I'll send it back to you along with a copy. Second best: send me a damaged or taken-off decal, along with as many photos of the decal as you can find, or old magazine ads with the logo. I'll do the artwork, email it to you for approval, and upon approval, print it and send you your copy along with all the ads, photos, and old stickers. Third best: Give me very exact measurements of old, damaged stickers on your frame (or whatever) as follows--dimensions of the whole sticker, distance of ink from the edge of the sticker, distance of each letter from the one next to it, every dimension you can imagine being relevant. Send photos of the original decals or old magazine ads with the logo. Draw a diagram of the decal and include all the dimensional info. Send it to me, I'll look at it, and if I have any questions, I'll email you with them. Once all that is figured out, I'll do the artwork, email it to you for your approval, and if approved, print it and send it to you, along with all your stuff you sent. As far as costs go, I'll keep them minimal--I don't think there is enough volume to get rich doing this. Once I've got the artwork done, I'll be able to make multiple sets of stickers so other people will be able to get them, too. It wouldn't be fair to gouge someone who goes to all the trouble of getting reproductions made, only to let someone else get them cheap with no effort expended, so I'll go really easy, price-wise, on the first sets and try to make prices fair for everyone. Costs should be $30 or less, most likeky less. Also, if you have decal sets that are cherry and you DON'T need reproductions, maybe you could send me a set, I'll reproduce them, then return them to you along with a copy, no charge....let me know what you think here, or email me with requests or very specific questions. Thanks, -Ed

Just finished building my Long awaited Big Tube project, and even took it out for a latenight spin. As many of you know this bike was far ahead of its time. Just how far I didn't know until it showed up today. The serial number is B236 I wouldn't imagine they made many more then that, do to the scarcity. The TT measures in at 19" which was relatively long for the day. Add the fact that it has humungous tubes, and it looks like it has a 15"TT. The headtube is 1 1/4" in diameter with 1" sleeves welded to the ends, The fork legs are twice as fat as a set of modern day jumping forks. Overall welding and craftsmanship is among some of the best I've ever seen. I built it up with a set of Hutch Mag/Tit hubs that were pristine with a brand new set of Araya C/P 7X rims, and SS spokes. Also I used my last set of Redline 401's that I was saving for such a project. Hutch Pro pedals, DK stem, Powerlite pro bars, Redline flitewheel. Turns out the frame is a bright chrome contrary to the crappy picture on Ebay. Spent 2 hours with the ole flitz and steel wool and was able to restore the chrome to its original brilliance. All of the decals were present, but they have some major wear. Also received a NOS Centurion frame in gold today, and a Wheels & Things frame/fork in blue NOS ser. # 0014. Waiting for 2 Hip Bikes to show while I'm writing this. They're crashing at my place tonite and are ripping up at my shop tomorrow. May get up early and take them to the local trails. Does anyone have a history lesson for me on the Big Tube by GJS? The decals say Big Tube mfg. by GJS. Does this mean that it was a seperate line of bikes, or a different company who just had GJS make them? It seems bizarre to word it that way. It should read GJS "The Big Tube" then again the bike itself doesn't follow any of the early 80's rules so why should the name. On a different note 2 Hip Bikes wound up their summer tour at my shop yesterday. And they absolutely blew the minds of the young, old, and hardcore riders. Of the estimated 700 people who showed .Cory Edelman was so stoked by the massive turn out that he pulled some of the sickest tricks I've ever seen. 2 of his signature tricks were one where he launched about 12 feet above the box jump and reached his right leg over his bars and touched his front peg. Followed by a heel clicker over his bars to a 2 footed can can. Also newly acquired team member Kochie (I don't know the spelling or his last name sorry) pulled a huge nothing as well as a no handed no footed back flip. I sold 40 2 Hip t shirts in 5 minutes after the show as people mobbed for autograghs. The phone rang off the hook today with people thanking us for the free show. I'd have to say it was a huge success even Jimmy would have approved.

I can't be there - it is this Saturday - but if there are any collecters in Dallas or Oklahoma or near by it is "Wheel-a-rama" on SW 59th St. I would like to see some collectors get these items rather than some bike shop in who knows what town. I am out of town so you can't reply to your emails for two weeks, but I will check this board.

Hey guys - I was in a bike shop the other day in Oklahoma City and they are closing out and having a big auction. There are several old school items there.

I am out of town so you can't reply to your emails for two weeks, but I will check this board.

I was told it was a kinda promotional thing. Done for a industry show? Anyway, they were done in limited numbers. Here's a warning. The tubing is definitely oversized, but they scaled down the thickness to save on weight. I was told they didn't hold up too well and were prone to crack, ding, etc. On the lighter side of things, I find this kinda amusing. The seat tube is the smaller 13/16". For a bike named the Big Tube I think it's funny. Ours has the 13/16" layback which is fun. I'll try and post a picture of it when I can.

There has been some interest in the Hutch jigs I mentioned in previous posts. I've decided I don't have any interest in them. So I'll let the rest of you know in case you want to pursue it. TNT Bicycles bought out Hutch and Thruster back in 1985. The guy I talked to said basically they threw jigs tubing, welding rods etc. into a dumpster and bid on it.They have 1 Hutch front triangle, and a couple rear triangles. They don't know which models they are for!, Also they have numerous Thruster jigs. When I talked to them last the guy basically told me they didn't want them, and would probably sell them cheap. Unless of course 20 people call in the course of a week. Then they may get suspicious. Also don't bother asking them if they could make you a frame in one of the jigs they won't and it'll irritate them. I made this mistake myself. It must be an insult to ask for an outdated non TNT frame. which I can sort of understand. Also I won't talk to them for you, your on your own.

These are generic knock off's but man, do they ever look just like haro lightning bolt plates!! I know I have a red-white and blue and a blue and yellow for sale. { The red and blue on the top and sides are " split" by the lightning bolts, you know the classic design} They are $20. plus $3 to ship. E-mail me if interested. I had to shell out some cash for these, so I am just trying to get some of it back, so I am sorry but no trades considered at this time. Thanks, Pat

Entered by: Philip (chilphil@ticnet.com)

Message:
Can anyone tell me when JMC started welding the seat clamp on their frames? I have two frames and neither one has this but in all the ads from back in the early 80's have this feature. I know a lot of these welded on clamps cracked and were ground off for use with a regular seatpost clamp but mine have not. Mine also have a box section behind the bottom bracket(similar to an old Mongoose) instead of the two chainstays welding directly to the rear of the bottom bracket. All the ones I've seen in the magazine tests and ads have both the integral clamp and the traditional rear end rather than the loop rear end like I have. Any explanations or guesses?

Sounds like you have one of the earlier JMC's that are well sought after { want to trade one???} I got out my July , 1979 Bicycle Motocross action magazine with Harry Leary doing a "Leary" on the cover and it does indeed look like a block behind the bottom bracket. Checking the ad inside for JMC it does show that they required a seat post clamp. They have a loop - tail design with a single hole drilled in the dropout. They came in red, white, and blue only and Harry Leary ruled then, D.Y. was probably a little kid! I don't have one of those frames but Harry Leary donated that same frame as the one pictured on the cover of July '79 BMXA to the ABA museum and when I saw it at the grands a few years ago, it definately gave me chills!
